FAQ
Are you accepting samples during COVID-19?
The Microbiome Core is currently accepting samples for 16S and metagenomic processing and remains operational while complying with all university and state regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All information between customer and Core staff can be exchanged via email or web meetings to limit in-person contact.
What do I do first to initiate a project? To initiate a project with the Microbiome Core, please email our director Kristina Carter with a description of your project and what service you require. From here, we can provide quote information and begin the process of project initiation.
Do you provide data analysis services? The Microbiome Core currently does not provide services for data analysis. For more information on these services, please see the Bioinformatics Core.
What services are included in the stated per sample rate? The per-sample rates listed here include all sample processing from sample receipt by the Core to data transfer to the customer. This includes the costs of all sample pre-processing as well as sequencing costs. Additionally, the prices include the following added controls:
- Low-biomass extractions: 8 blanks+8 defined-communities (dilution series) per 96w extraction plate
- High-biomass extractions: 4 blanks+4 defined-communities (dilution series) per 96w extraction plate
- 16S library controls (i.e. PCR controls): 4 no-template-control blanks + 4 defined-communities (dilution series) per sequencing pool/lane
- Any additionally requested controls must be discussed during project initiation
How long will it take to get data back for my samples? The time it takes to generate data for a project is strongly dependent on the number of samples in the project, the service pipeline required, and our current project queue. Please contact Kristina Carter to receive more detailed information on the expected processing time for your specific project.
